Uganda and founding Leadership Board Member of the Mayors Migration Council
Erias (Ssalongo) Lukwago, Lord Mayor of the City of Kampala, Uganda, was first elected in January of 2011 and re-elected in 2016. In 2006, Mayor Lukwago was elected to the Ugandan Parliament, on the Democratic Party ticket, representing the Central Kampala Constituency. While in Parliament, he served on the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee and the Local Government Accounts Committee. In 2005, he was elected as the National Legal Advisor of the Democratic Party. Mayor Lukwago is a founding Leadership Board member of the Mayors Migration Council and the President of the Network of Mayors on Water, Sanitation, and Hygeiene (WASH). Mayor Lukwago was born and raised in Kampala and attended Kampala’s Makerere University where he graduated with Bachelor of Laws degree and a diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Center. He holds a certificate in Advocacy Skills from the International Law Institute in D.C.
