Anies Baswedan was inaugurated as the Governor of Jakarta for the 2017-2022 term on October 16th, 2017. Before assuming office, Mr. Baswedan served as the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia in the Joko Widodo administration from 2014 to 2016, and as rector of Paramadina University from 2007 to 2015. Mr Baswedan is the recipient of the 2010 Nakasone Yasuhiro Award from the Institute for International Policy Studies in Japan. He has also been named as one of the Top 100 Public Intellectuals by Foreign Policy Magazine in 2008, as one of the World’s 20 Future Figures by Foresight Magazine, Japan, in 2010, and as one of the 500 Most Influential Muslims by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre in 2010. Mr Baswedan received a Ph.D in Political Science from Northern Illinois University, an MA in Public Management from the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland and a BA in Economics from Gadjah Mada University in Indonesia.
