Gerry McCartney is a Professor of Wellbeing Economy at the University of Glasgow. He previously trained as a General Practitioner and Public Health Doctor, and has degrees in Medicine, Economics and Public Health. He worked for the NHS in Scotland running the Scottish Public Health Observatory between 2010 and 2021. His research interests have focused on the causes of health inequalities, excess mortality in Scotland and the stalled life expectancy trends since 2012.
