Marco Akerman MD, MSc, PhD is a Full Professor of the School of Public Health/University of São Paulo; Deputy Municipal Health Secretary of São Paulo City, Brazil (2003-2004); Vice Dean ABC Region Medical School, Brazil (2010-2014); Latin America Vice President of the International Union of Health Promotion and Education (2010-2016); Chair of the Working Group on Health Promotion and Sustainable Development of the Brazilian Association of Public Health (2011-2016). Former PAHO Regional Consultant on Local Development and Health and Focal Point on Social Determinants of Health (2006-2009). Marco Akerman focuses his consulting activities, teaching and research in the areas of evaluation of public policies, intersectoral action for health equity and social determinants of health. In 2014, he led a review process of the National Health Promotion Policy in Brazil activating multiple simultaneous movements with intense social participation.
