Romulo Paes, MD, PhD (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine), is a health policy and social protection expert, interested in poverty eradication policies, social protection policies, and health inequality indicators. He is Senior Investigator at Fiocruz (Brazil) and Honorary Associate at the Institute of Development Studies (University of Sussex, UK). He is vice-president of the Brazilian Association of Collective Health (ABRASCO). Earlier in his career, he was Deputy Minister of Social Development of Brazil, and Director of the UNDP World Centre for Sustainable Development. He has worked as an international consultant on social protection policy, and social policy evaluation, in Latin America, Africa and Asia for UNDP, UNICEF, FAO, PAHO, the World Bank, IADB and FCDO-UK.
